It wasn’t so long ago in Detroit that proposals for bicycle lanes, urban farms, mass tree plantings and other alternative uses for urban land were viewed as soft-headed or even harmful. But today these ideas and others like them have gone mainstream. This “greening” of Detroit’s land and streets represents a seismic shift in thinking about how we redevelop a city.
